Condé Nast Traveler recently revealed the world’s top islands through its 2018 Readers’ Choice Awards. The list, which entails 30 destinations outside the United States, ranked Siargao, Boracay and Palawan as the top three best islands in Asia.
While Palawan and Boracay have consistently made it on to CN’s top lists, Siargao taking the top spot has been attributed to the fact that there’s been an increase in surfers traveling to remote surf spots, hoping to catch and enjoy the waves before said destinations become a major tourist hub.
Currently, Siargao enjoys a steady stream of visitors – locals especially ever since it’s been used as the backdrop in a handful of local mainstream and indie films. There are a number of water and beach activities that guests can enjoy, apart from the over 15 separate surf breaks that surfers flock to.

Per the Department of Tourism (DOT), Siargao welcomed 163,245 domestic and foreign visitors from January to June earlier this year – a 24.54% increase from the number of visitors during the same period last year.
With the new title that the island’s garnered, the DOT foresees a drastic increase in the number of visitors in the coming months.
