Disney’s Mickey Mouse Celebrates 90th Birthday in Manila

Having first appeared in 1928’s “Steamboat Willie”, Disney’s beloved Mickey Mouse recently celebrated his 90th birthday last November 18.

With several events and celebrations taking place around the world, Mickey apparently found time to celebrate his birthday in Manila!

Taken from the “Oh My Disney Asia” Facebook page, there are several photos that show Mickey looking dapper in the traditional barong – posing in front of some of Manila’s top tourist spots.

Said tourist spots include Luneta Park where he snapped a photo with the iconic Rizal Monument. He then made his way to Intramuros, where he took another photo at the entrance of Fort Santiago alongside a Filipina dressed in a baro’t saya.

Last but not the least were photos taken along Manila Bay which showcased the beautiful and serene sunset that people head over to enjoy.

Apart from the photo shoot, there have been a couple of other Mickey-centric happenings in the Metro: the themed light show in Makati and the Mickey ears that appear in traffic lights.

The light show in Makati is on its 10th year, marking the milestone with a partnership between Ayala Land and The Walt Disney Company Philippines.

Imagine a myriad of colors and visual masterpieces lighting up Ayala Garden, all set to some of your favorite Disney songs and to Filipino Christmas classics, as well!

On the other hand, in partnership with the Metro Manila Development Authority, The Walt Disney Company Philippines continues to delight Pinoys with Mickey Mouse themed traffic lights.

The hidden Mickeys can be found in some parts of Makati, Mandaluyong, Manila, Muntinlupa, Paranaque, Quezon City and San Juan.

Now 90 years in, Mickey Mouse has accomplished quite a lot! With 10 nominations for the Academy Awards, he has appeared in over 130 short films and is also the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
