PH’s Toyo Eatery Debuts on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2019

The much-awaited list of Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants has finally been released, and this 2019 edition definitely has some surprises.

After four consecutive years on the number one spot, Bangkok’s Gaggan has been overtaken by last year’s number five, Odette.

The Singapore-based French restaurant made its first appearance on the list last 2017 at number nine, making it the highest new entry of all time. The restaurant, which is helmed by French Chef Julien Royer, has only been in operation since 2015, and has earned two Michelin Stars during its first year.

This year’s list also includes the 2nd Filipino restaurant to ever make the coveted top 50, Toyo Eatery.

Making its debut  at the 43rd spot, Chef Jordy Navarra’s brainchild was previously awarded the Miele One to Watch award last 2018, which spotlights promising chefs of the future.

Navarra was trained at the iconic Fat Duck restaurant in England then moved to Hong Kong before making his way back home to start his own. Toyo Eatery features a tasting menu that comes in a combination of three to eleven dishes, and an ala carte menu as well.
