VOLO Festival 2019: A Guide to Southeast Asia’s Biggest Hip Hop Festival

Beat the summer heat with the freshest hip hop sounds and fun water activities. Over the Songkran holiday, the first off-the-hook VOLO Festival will give hip hop heads a treat with world-class and local artists.

This weekend event is something to look forward to with the mash-up of hip urban culture at the resort town of Hua Hin.

 

What is VOLO Festival

This summer, the first edition Volo Festival unites hip-hop enthusiasts and tourists alike to a showcase of urban culture. The 2019 Volo Festival will be happening on April 13-14 at Vana Nava Water Jungle, Asia’s first water jungle, in Hua Hin district.

Expect nothing short of music, fashion, art, and food here in Southeast Asia’s largest hip-hop festival.
 

How to get there

The festival will kick off at Vana Nava Water Jungle in Thailand’s thriving Hua Hin District, Thailand. If you’re coming from Manila, you can take a flight to Bangkok.

There are daily direct flights from local airlines including Philippine Airlines. Other international air carrier options include Thai Airways, Malaysia Airlines, and Jetstar.

From Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok, you can travel to Hua Hin via bus, train, or express train depending on your budget and preference.
 

What to expect

Experience a pirate theme two-day 2019 VOLO Festival. Festival-goers 18 year old and above are encouraged to dress up and express themselves. Tickets are sold for PHP 4,153 and gates are opened at 4PM.

• Music

Shout out to hip hop heads/enthusiasts. Clear your weekend this April 13 to 14 and dig into the festival’s huge debut party with the big shot American rapper A$AP Rocky top billing the event. Another global hip hop figure headlining the event is 2 Chainz.

Rocky is the frontman of A$AP Mob and has collaborated with Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Skrillex, Rihanna to name a few.

Other confirmed regional artists to join them in the spotlight are Asian-American artist Daboyway, Thai artists Pok Mindset & Double P, eclectic hip-hop/rapper Youngohm, FIIXD, Younggu, Diamond, Young Bong, and Gavin Duval.

• Fashion

The fest will also showcase lit lifestyle zones including a Fashion Zone strategically located at the grounds. The area will feature curated local streetwear and again, Rocky is the best choice as the headlining act.

The American rap figure has been included in several best-dressed men lists both online and offline. Don’t miss out to get a glimpse of his unique fashion taste as well as the other attendees’ OOTD.

Beyond the festival’s eargasmic beats, your ticket also includes entrance into the waterpark starting from 10 am into the course of the festival.

Vana Nava Water Jungle’s entertainment complex offers an array of tropical attractions such as signature rides, exciting slides, as well as Thailand’s First Professional Underwater Studio, Vanadio.

Aside from the festival’s Food Zone, the water park has a selection of dining options combining Thai flavors and Western cuisines.

What to bring

Calling y’all hommies out there. Since Volo Festival 2019 is the biggest hip hop fest in Southeast Asia, and on its debut edition, best to come prepared for this event.

You should take into consideration that this is a part of the Songkran celebration, the most festive merriment in Thailand. For the festival goers, make sure to bring these items:

  • Extra clothes/attire/swimsuit. Remember that this is a wet and wild pirate theme event with lots of other attendees.
  • Sunscreen. If you’ll roam around the venue or outside before attending the event don’t forget to protect yourself from sunburn.
  • Fanny or hip pack. An essential item to carry your valuables such as room keys and cash. Aside from its use, this can add more style to your get up.
  • Reusable bottle and utensils. Helps reduce trash.
  • Waterproof camera. Don’t forget to take snippets of your great time with your squad. Just don’t miss the real-time fun because of too many #forthegram shots. Nothing beats experience!
