Where To Go Surfing In The Philippines: 8 Spots To Visit

1. Siargao

Behold the “Surfing Capital of the Philippines!” The island’s most visited surfing spot can be found in General Luna. It is more popularly known as “Cloud 9” because of its waves averaging 7 feet. The best months to visit are August, September, October, and early November.

2. Pagudpud

Another major surfing destination is Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte - which is apparently the least crowded among the wave havens of the country. While you are here, try going to Blue Lagoon - the waves are decent, not too high nor too low, but powerful.

3. Baler

Although Siargao is the “Surfing Capital of the Philippines”, Baler is the “birthplace” of the Filipino surfing. It's also where the 1970s classic movie “Apocalypse Now” was filmed. What's great about Baler is that it can cater to both novice and advanced surfers. For the beginners, Sabang Beach offers medium sized waves while Cemento Beach hosts stronger and taller waves for competitions. Back to top

4. Eastern Samar

According to Surfing Philippines, Samar is the “Surf Capital of the Visayas”. The majority of its coastlines have yet to be explored, but 100 km of the shoreline has already been developed. Tourists are advised to visit in October. Locals recommend surfing at "Boulevard," probably because it is very close to the town proper. Back to top

5. Zambales

While beaches here are not as “wild” as those in the northern part of Luzon, Zambales is still a popular surfing choice for locals and tourists alike. The three famous spots here are San Antonio, San Narciso, and San Felipe. Although the waves are not that high, they are still very consistent (perfect for beginners). Waves come from the West Philippine Sea (South China Sea). Back to top

6. Sorsogon

Believe it or not, Sorsogon was once an agricultural breeding site. Over time, it evolved into one of the best areas to try surfing in the Philippines. With its popular wave playground, “Breeding”, Sorsogon offers waves that “break in reefs”. The best season to go here is between October and March. (Breeding used to cater locals only). Back to top

7. La Union

For city people, La Union is easily one of the go-to spots for surfing. Not only is it the closest surfing spot, but the waves are also perfect all year-round (but the peaks are January and December, per Out of Town Blog). Back to top

8. Daet, Camarines Norte

Also near Manila, Daet is always “dotted” with tourists every weekend. Nevertheless, it is not just the proximity that attracts tourists. The “perfectly balanced” waves act like bait to lure in more people. Bagasbas Beach is one of the most visited here. It has waves that are moderately strong and break on sandbars.
